A Musing Day

Gomer Pyle got hitched

All those years,

safely hidden -

In the closet,

love blossomed.

28 record albums,

 TV shows,

guest appearances.

About affectations,

not one peep.

Then in his eighties,

A marriage,

the truth blazes forth.

“Well, gosh, Sarge,

it just seemed like

the right thing to do.”

The Eagles

The eagles soar, circle and perch --

eye crowds of humans gathered below,

on bridges and in the woods,

snapping photos, taking videos.

They might be thinking

Have you not seen hungry birds before?

Can’t we eat in peace?

Don’t you have anything better to do?

The people ooh and ahh and point.

Look at the majestic wingspan,

the regal white cap, glittering eyes,

the amazing talons that shoot out,

grab unwary carp or bass destined for

baby eaglets grumbling stomachs.

Like certain fictional characters in Tolkein’s books,

they rule the skies and dominate imaginations.

It is interesting to contemplate these bird emperors

are relatives in the Vulture family.

Beauty resides everywhere.
