They aren't the big black kind,
or the flying around kind.
Not the red fire brands that bite,
no these are almost tiny as mites.
Little ants, mobile sized that get around.
They get into sheds, into boxes, all over.
On kitchen counters, into storage drawers.
Wherever there is a hidden space, they will be.
Trying to eradicate them inside the house seems
impossible. Sprays, vinegar, traps no matter.
They will crawl across your greatest efforts,
and laugh at you while they deposit scent trails.
There must be a way to eliminate these pests,
or at least keep them outside the house.
Probably do serve a purpose in nature,
helping break down detritus and debris
into soil and compost in the forest.
The serve no good purpose on my kitchen counters,
except to gross me out and aggravate me no end.
Biblical plagues must have included ants somewhere!
But being retired I have plenty of free time now -
just didn't think it would all be spent combating ants.
I wonder if a nuclear bomb would get them all?
Probably not – the Earth will be inherited by
the mighty cockroach – and likely those lowly ants.
